I was 10 years old when he married my mom and I was just so happy, so unbelievably complete, to finally have a dad. From day 1 of dating my mom, he was my dad. This man, in his mid-twenties, who didn’t have any kids, and knew what he was taking on. He adopted me and never once made me feel like I wasn’t really his child. I don’t even remember any of my mom’s previous boyfriends, just him. And if you asked anyone, they’d tell you I’m more like him than my biological father. Most can’t even tell he’s my stepdad. And we have fought. Had our struggles. But even when I hated everyone, my dad was always there and still is.
